How to make a Make-up caddy out of Birchbox Boxes

First, I am not very good at doing tutorials, so sorry if this isn't great. Second, I no longer have a supply of all of the materials I used the first time, but I am going to attempt to make this as clear as I can.

Third, Blogger is having sone issues (at least for me) and isn't letting me move the images around so that they are in the correct order. I am trying to fix it and as soon as I am able it will be edited. For now I have tried to label the images with the corresponding steps.

Tools needed:
-a box big enough to fit the Birchbox boxes, tall enough to stack how many you would like to use. I happened to have a box laying around from diapers that was the perfect size.
-a roll of clear packing tape
-double sided tape
-scissors
-a ruler
-scrapbook paper or cardstock, or whatever type of paper you want to use to cover your box.

Step 1:

Pick a side of your box to be the front. It should be one of the wide sides. Make sure you keep track of this side.

Now cut off the front, left and right flaps from the top of the box (see Step 1 image below). Do not throw them away.

Step 2:

Cut down the corners on either side of the front off your box. Cut all the way to the bottom. Do not cut the bottom edge or you will cut the flap you just created off. The front side should now flap open. (see Step 2 image)

Step 3A:

Using your packing tape, tape the two short flaps together, short end to short end. (see Step 3A image)

Step 3B:

Now trim this piece so that it is the same length as the long flap you cut off.

You should now have two pieces of the same size. (see Step 3B image)

Step 4A:

Tape the long flap you cut off to the back flap on the top of your box (wide side to wide side). (see Step 4A image)

Step 4B:

Now tape the piece you created using the two short flaps to the wide side of the long piece you just taped on. (see Step 4B image)

You should now have the top flap of your box. It should over lap onto the front side of your box.

(look at image 4C to see what your box should look like)

Step 5:

Decide how many trays you can stack up inside of your box.

Match up your bottoms and lids to your Birchbox boxes. You need to put bottoms with bottoms and tops with tops so that each tray is the same height on both sides.

Now tape two bottoms (or two tops) together. Tape them down the middle on the bottom and where they meet on the top. Make sure they feel secure and are not wobbly. (see step 5 image)

Step 6: (optional. If you just want to leave your box plain, or prefer to paint it, etc. then you don't need to do this part)

Measure the outside height and inside height of each of your trays. You will need to cut 4 strips of paper to fit the outside and 4 strips to fit the inside. I attached the strips using double sided tape. Simply fold the strips over/into the corners, you don't need to cut the strips to the exact length. If they over lap it's fine.

Do this for each tray.

After each tray is covered you can write labels and tape them to each tray.

Step 7: (also optional)

Cover the outside of your box in paper using the double sided tape. After its covered you can cover the entire box in packing tape to help protect it from moisture. To do this just lay strips over the entire box until it is completely covered.

You can now stack the trays up inside of your box. Fold the front flap up and close the top flap. If you would like, you can place Velcro tape on the underside of the top flap and on the front flap (so that they meet up) to keep the top down. Mine sits on my vanity, so I don't have the top secured down.

Disclaimer- this caddy won't last forever as it is made of materials that degrade fairly easily. The quality of your caddy will depend on your skill in making it. The neater and more carefully you do this, the better it will look.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. I will try to help!

Image 4C: After step 4B your box should look like this
Step 4B: The two pieces taped to the flap to create the top of the box.
Step 4A: Tape the long flap to the flap you left on the back. wide side to wide side.
Step 3A: Tape two short flaps together.

Step 1: Cut the front, left and right flaps off.
Step 1: pick a side to be the front of your box.
Step 6: Match up strips of paper with the trays.
Step 6: tape strips of paper to inside and outside of trays.
Step 5: Match the bottoms and tops up. Tape them together.
Step 7: Cover box in paper. Then in tape.
Step 2: Cut down the corners on either side of the front of your box. Now the front can be pulled down.
Finished caddy!
